After the end of the Vietnam War,the history of the normal relationship between the United States and Vietnam can be said to be "striking one snag after another".From 1975 Vietnam unification to 1995 America and Vietnam established diplomatic relations, the normalization had experienced three stages, namely, initial contact, falling into low ebb and resumption of negotiations.According to the existing data,The selected topic will not only conduct a comprehensive, systematic and in-depth analysis of the normalization in 1975-1995,but also analyze the characteristics and influence factors of the development of the Vietnam-US relation in different periods. This paper consists of three parts: introduction, text and conclusion. The introduction part mainly introduces the origin and significance of the topic, summarizes the research situation of the domestic and foreign academic circles, then explains the research methods of the topic. The text is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly analyzes the causes, process and results of the initial contact between the United States and Vietnam in the period of 1975-1978.Based on the consideration of their respective domestic demand, the two countries have tried to realize normalize relations during 1975-1978,and conducted a series of negotiations. But in the end because the divergence of the two sides are too large in the negotiations,as well as the Vietnamese invasion of Kampuchea, the development of Sino-US relations and other restricting factors, two countries failed to achieve diplomatic relations. The second chapter focuses on the development of the relationship between the United States and Vietnam during 1979-1989.Over the past 10 years, because of the Soviet Union's support for the Vietnamese invasion of Kampuchea,US-Vietnam relation fell into the trough,so the normalization almost impossible to talk about. In the Reagan administration, although the two sides had some contact on the issue of Prisoners of War / Missing in Acts, ultimately ended without fruit. The third chapter mainly discusses the background, process and normalization of bilateral relations in the period of 1990-1995.In the background of the cold war,for their own interests to adjust their foreign policy, the two countries eventually established diplomatic relations as well as achieved the normalization after five years of negotiations. The normalization has been the result of the continuous adjustment of their policies both at home and abroad. In the tortuous process of normalization, the foreign policy of the United States and Vietnam has been restricted by many factors. The international environment, the domestic political situation and the economic factors have played an important role.
