The Role Of Perceptual Fluency In Familiarity And Liking Judgment

The study of perceptual fluency has important theoretical and practical significance.The perceptual fluency has an impact on different assessment judgments,but the conclusions of the different studies are not uniform on the relationship between the impact,the size of the impact,and the impact on the different judgments.Fluency arising from the emotional experience of some scholars that are neutral,some scholars think is positive,and fluency of the emotional experience of the theoretical explanation is not uniform.Although there has been a great deal of research on the effect of fluency on the familiar judgments and the liking judgments,such works has tended to proceed on separate tracks.It is not clear whether perceptual fluency affects both the judgment of the two different attributes,and whether the effect of fluency on both familiar and liking judgment in the same experiment can be compared.This makes it particularly important to study the effects of perceived fluency on familiar and the liking judgment in the same experiment.Most of the experimental materials used in most previous studies operate perceptual fluency from two aspects.The first is to change the perceptual fluency by manipulating the objective features of the stimulus,including the symmetry of the experimental material,the contrast of the stimulus and the background,The type of stimulus,the clarity of the stimulus,the exposure duration of the stimulus,the degree of simplicity of the stimulus and so on.The second is to change the perceived fluency by priming manipulations,and the repetitive stimulus will improve the perceptual fluency.In this study,In this study,three experiments were carried out on the basis of previous research results.Experiment 1 is the conduct of the validation study,the perceptual fluency by priming manipulations to study Whether the perceptual fluency has an impact on the liking or familiar judgments,respectively,the experiment using single-factor experimental design,independent variables are the priming type(no priming,Different pictures priming and the same picture priming).Experiment 2:Explore the effects of perception fluency on both liking and familiar judgment,the experiment uses 3(priming type:no priming,Different pictures priming and the same picture priming)×2(judgment type:liking judgment and familiar judgment)within subject experimental design.Experiment 3:picture baseline conditions(picture symmetry),to explore the perception of fluency on the liking and familiar judgment,the experiment using2(symmetric type:symmetry and asymmetry)×2(type of judgment:liking judgment and familiar judgment)within subject experimental design.Through three experiments,this study draws the following conclusions:(1)In the same study,with the same experimental material,the perceptual fluency has an impact on the liking and familiar judgments.(2)When familiar and liking judgments mixed,perceptual fluency influenced familiar judgment,but not liking judgment.This study questioned aspects of the hedonic mark hypothesis,support fluency-error attribution theory.
