The Application Of Relevance Theory In Academic Translation

In modern society,interpersonal relationship plays an important role,and sometimes it even can become the key factor to the success of a certain thing.Language is regarded as a main tool for human interaction while human relationship is established,consolidated and developed in the process of human interaction.Therefore,one needs to understand speech behavior and human interaction as well as the relation between them when he or she wants to ensure a harmonious human relationship and a successful career as well.This selected material mainly focuses on information collection,information storage,and how information is processed into language,meanwhile it also discusses the influence of different speech behaviors on human interaction.This selected material contains multi-discipline knowledge,so in the process of translation,the translator also meets some problems at levels of lexical,syntactic and culture and after careful consideration,the translator finally chooses relevance theory which thinks that communication is a process of cognition that has to rely on mental inference.On the basis of this theory,relevance principle was established.Thus relevance theory is selected as theory basis to explain the pragmatic phenomena in human interaction.Under the guidance of translation strategies such as domestication and foreignization,this material strives to faithfully show the thoughts and ideas of the authors to target readers in accordance with their reading and thinking habits to give them some help in their daily communication.This translation report aims to introduce some knowledge of speech behavior and human interaction to evoke readers’ awareness in this aspect and thus to help them have a self-examination and take actions to achieve harmonious human relationship.
