This is a translation report which selects the seventh chapter and the eighth chapter of the novel The Nightingale written by Kristin Hannah as the source text.The story of The Nightingale happened under a special circumstance – the Second World War.It is a book exploring the complex humanity in the war,extolling the goodness of human nature and revealing the evil of mankind.The novel is well-known for its beautiful language,vivid description and abundant emotions,which enables the readers in the target language to not only feel how it is like to be in the war,but also think critically on humanity.This translation report adopts the pragmatic translation concept which creatively promotes the use of pragmatics theories in the translating process.Following the principle and standard of pragmatic equivalence,the report tries to analyze the essential parts of the novel including the characters' speeches,portrait of characters and portrait of scene.The report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the general description of the translation task.It includes the background of the report,the introduction to the source text,etc.The second chapter is concerned with the process description which presents the pre-translation process,the translation process and the post-translation work.The third section is the introduction to the theoretical basis.The next chapter is the case analysis which explores more deeply in the emphases and difficulties mentioned in the translation process.The last chapter is the conclusion which summarizes what has been learnt and what has been found.
