“Formless Substances”—The Study Of Antoni Tapies's Painting Materials

Antoni Tapies is one of the most outstanding artists in Spain since nineteenth century,and the representative of the non-classical artists.Tapies' s persistent exploration and pursuit of artistic creation eventually led to his unique artistic style.His painting style and artistic conception were deeply influenced by family background and living environment.Through the organic combination and performance of the materials,Tapies constructed pieces of impressing compositions,which had abstract picture form,yet was different from the abstract art idea.Tapies used ordinary materials in the daily life as the basis for creations.He gave life to the materials and emphasized reality in the concept and importance of materials.Behind the creations of Tapies were the hidden realism and his wish of quick resolving to the problem.The creations of Tarpies brought a new feeling to the viewers,enriched our aesthetic experience and broadened our way of thing and innovation.In this paper,the purpose of studying Tapies' creation materials is to explore the external form of ordinary and obscure materials of daily life,to reveal the true implication of Tapies' creations,and to emphasis the value of ‘non-formalism' through the research and comparison with geometric abstractism In this paper,Tapies' concept of creations is studied through the maturities of Tapies and evolution of using materials in both spiritual and social aspects.The creations of tepies were full of vitality,which were beyond external phenomenon of art form transformation,highlighting human wisdom.His creations reflected the true face of the times.Tapies is the most representative artist of ‘non-fromalism'.His artistic career had gone through several different stages.The foundation for the artistic creation of Tapies included morbid adolescence and social background of chaos.This article mainly includes three aspects to analyze the formation of Tapies' artistic conception.First,analyzing the formation of concept of artistic creations of Tapies from the social background,the other genre and the influence of oriental culture.Second,analyzing the difference between the two schools and highlighting the value and significance of non-formalism through the comparison of non-formalism and geometric abstraction.Third,analyzing the materials Tapies used in the process of material evolution to find out how the artistic ideas were formed through the external form of materials.The art of Tapies is still alive in artistic ecology nowadays.His ideas and creating ways continue to affect some of the current young artists.
