Study On The "Image Of Yao" In The Chinese Costume Magic & Fantasy Films From 2008 To 2017

This thesis focuses on the costume magic & fantasy films with the relationship between mankind and Yao as a main clue that are shown in the mainland of China from 2008 to 2017.The thesis aims to explore the cultural meaning implied in the films and the development of the stereotyped costume magic & fantasy films through a consideration of the modern construction of�Image of Yao� and of the modern expression as well of cultural psychology of relationship between mankind and Yao.With the development of the age,traditional Yao imgae has greatly changed.The modernized Yao,no more simply horrified,increasingly resembles human beings.Such human-like Yao,guided by their divinity,learned love and growth.Currently,the beautiful female Yao and the childish male Yao together form the typical image group of the costume magic & fantasy films.This is closely linked to the power of discourse.As the Other in a patriarchal society,the beautiful female Yao will have human nature and realize one's personal value on condition that they fall in love with human beings.Differently,the childish male Yao will grow up to be a man under female elders' guidance by learning some rules.Whether in the opposite sex relationship between human and female Yao or in the relationship between young and old,human beings themselves have obtained self-reassurance in such new patterns of interpersonal relationship.In the narration mode of �repel--acquaintance--compatibility--departure(coincidence)� and in the inhibition offense process,human beings have been able to make a control andbalance of Yao from the �out of order� to the �in order�.Admittedly,the affection between mankind and Yao is not exclusively subject to current costume magic & fantasy films;instead it has existed throughout the historical human imaginations and appears in different forms in different periods.However,no matter what changes it will make,the core meaning of �human-Yao complex� centers on sexual love and survive.Stimulated by market and scientific technology,the emerging of �Image of Yao� reflects exactly the stereotype process of costume magic & fantasy films.Nonetheless,how to save its �low popularity� in the competitive �high box office�market and to break the bottleneck by creating more classic films remain to be solved.
