Research On Chen' Family Of Ningbo Guanqiao

This dissertation choose the Chen Family from late nineteen century to early 21 st century in Guanqiao of Ningbo as the research object,and the development and vicissitude in nearly a hundred years of this family and the resulting family transformation was analyzed in this paper.This paper is divided into five parts,the first part is the clarification of the source of Chen family,mainly clarification of the family source,primary members and basic situation of the Chen family.The second part mainly discusses the Xunzheng Chen and the rise of the Chen family.The grandfather of Xunzheng Chen established the foundation of Chen family through business,however,it was still a traditional business and lieracy family.Since Xunzheng Chen passed the imperial examinations at the provincial level in 1903,The Chen family entered into a stage of self-growth as a cultural family.Xunzheng Chen played a pioneering role in the rise of the Chen family as a culture family.The achievement of Xunzheng Chen in culture and history extended the influence of the Chen family in the cultural circle.Meanwhile,his excellent writing skills established the foundation of his official career.The third part is about Bulei Chen,after the reception of modern education,he became the Senior staff of Jieshi Jiang who was the leader of the Nationalist Party and started his career of politics.Bulei Chen not only cultivated brothers of the Chen family and promoted them to serve as officials in the Nationalist Party,making Chen Family become a family of intellectual officials.The sons and daughters of Bulei Chen also received modern education and went in for modern occupations.The fourth part mainly deals with the great achievement in historic field made by Xunci Chen.He made great contribution to the establishment and development of the Zhejiang Library during his administration of Zhejiang Library.The fifth part is about Lian Chen,the daughter of Bulei Chen.She betrayed his nationalist family and joined the Communist Party,leading his family to a modern intellectual family.Shimeng Chen,the grandson of Bulei Chen also betrayed his family and joined Democratic Progressive Party and advocated the independence for Taiwan in public.In addition,for the other members in the Chen family,they will also be discussed in the relevant sections in the paper.In conclusion,through the analysis of the several generations of the Chen family,this paper discusses the inheritance and the uniqueness between them,thus elaborates the relationship between the Chen family and social changes.The development of the Chen family in Guanqiao is an epitome of modern family development,Learning about these things will in no doubt be helpful for a deeper understanding of the Chen family and the modern society of china.Meanwhile,the research on the Chen family helps to enrich the connotation of the regional culture of East Zhejiang province.
