The report is based on several articles about financial and economic news from the Economist in 2015.It can be divided into four parts: task description, process description, case studies and concluding remarks. The highlight of the report is the third part---case study. This part includes a thorough study on lexis, syntaxes and discourse and a summary of some translation methods and techniques under the guidance of Catford's translation shift theory. On translating lexis, recognized translation method, literal translation and transliteration can be used in translating jargons and proper names while liberal translation and transliteration are proper for translating abbreviations. For word class shifts, conversing is employed under the translation shift theory. On translating sentences, sequential method, reversing method and split method are employed to tackle the long and complicated sentences.Furthermore, according to the specific circumstances, passive voice sentences can be translated into four kinds: non-subject sentences, active sentences passive sentences and cause-and-effect sentences. On translating discourse, the translator puts forward cohesive devices and three translation methods---omission,amplification and conversion to achieve cohesion and coherence. For images, reservation and conversion with sense are used in translation.Through deep studying the news of The Economist, the author singled out the economic news' features and summarized proper translation methods and strategies. The author sincerely hopes that the strategies and methods summed up in the report can provide some references for business personages and student translators.
