A Project Report On The E-C Translation Of The Economist Guide To Investment Strategy

The target audiences for The Economist Guide to Investment Strategy are investors in China.The purpose of the text is to introduce reasonable western investment strategies to investors in China in order that they can use for reference.This text focuses on introducing fiscal rules and lessons from the outside world to China,thus,it belongs to guiding texts.According to the definition of Newmark's text type theory,such guide belongs to informative text.Therefore,the project reporter chose Skopos Theory as an overall translation theory.The project report is based on The Economist Guide to Investment Strategy.This project is aimed at summarizing the issues and difficulties during translation:at the level of diction,it is difficult to deal with the translation of glossary and titles;at the level of syntax,long complex sentences such as nominalization structure,frequent use of passive voice and conditional clauses are the tough nuts;and at the discourse level,how to maintain the discourse style is the difficult point.Under the guidance of functional translation theory,the author summarizes feasible translation methods by studying translated sentences.When dealing with terminologies and titles,amplification,omission and free translation are used;when translating the long complex sentences,division,tense and voice transformation can be effective;when dealing with unique discourse features,translation with explanation and reconstruction may serve the purpose.In the face of translation difficulties,the author summarizes her own translation strategies with the help of others' experience and relevant materials so as to hope to provide some advice for the translation of financial guides.
