On the basis of the translation of the third part "Salvage" of Manual on Oil Pollution, this report is designed to study the application of conversion in Chinese translation of maritime texts. The concept of "Conversion" is defined as "departure from the formal correspondence in the process of going from source language to target language to realize the equivalence in meaning and effect".Based on the theoretical perspective of "Translation Shift Theory" proposed by Catford, this report takes a tentative attempt to summarize common conversion types encountered in the translation of the third part of Manual on Oil Pollution, and to mainly study the technique of conversion.By combining inclusive analysis and illustration, the final study on the exquisite conversion from English to Chinese is achieved:(1)convert to verbs;(2)convert to nouns;(3)other forms conversion.By translating maritime pollution related texts and studying the methods used in translation, this practice report which lays a foundation for further maritime text translation practice is of certain practical significance to both maritime text translation ability enhancement and daily translation practice. |
