As it covers 14 classics' annotations in Han,Wei and Jin dynasties,Classics Annotation – a monograph composed by Lu Deming of Tang dynasty(618-907)-has played an extremely important part and thus been given consistently high attention by scholars ever since it came to existence. But after having been passed down for nearly 1500 years, this heritage is now quite different from its original edition. In order to provide a reliable text of the book for relevant research on it,it's very necessary and urgent to restore the book to its original edition.Based on the modern information technologies and analytic methods,we try to determine the authenticity of part of the phonetic annotations of the book,in the hope of shedding light on restoring its original edition. The thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter 1 consists of two parts,in which the existing studies of Classics Annotation and the purpose of the thesis can be found. As the early-on research, the annotations exist to provide a reliable text for the studies at next stage.Chapter 2 is an illustration of the thesis' stylistic rules and layout, research objects and methods.Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 are the main parts of the paper. In Chapter 2,two editions of Classics Annotation of Zhouyi are proofread. With the proofread scripts, the difference of the two are found through the graphemes, the number of characters in every explanations, the terminologies, the characters used for phonetic notations, numbers of the words' explanations and so on.Of them, the latter two are given particular attention and specially explained. We made an exhaustive list of the difference of the two scripts in terms of characters used for phonetic notations and the numbers of the words' explanations. Then based on the rules of phonetic notations in Classics Annotation and all of the 14 classics and classics' annotations, several typical examples are used to demonstrate how to analyze and decide it is the original notation. In Chapter 3 the thesis focuses on the commonly used polyphonic Chinese characters'frequent pronunciations in Classics Annotation of Zhouyi. After the objective characters were defined and listed, nine commonly used polyphonic Chinese characters are chosen to observe and study.Their frequent pronunciations are sought out by by referring to Guangyun and the 14 classics and classics' annotations. Then with 17 tables,we fill them with all the information of the nine characters recorded in Classics Annotation and the corresponding details in the 14 classics and classics' annotations, all of which are retrieved from the completed electronic databases.Through analyzing the tables and the previous references, the original phonetic annotations of the9 characters are revealed.Chapter 4 is a conclusion of the whole study. The findings and shortcomings of the study are listed, and it's hoped that future, further studies will be carried out to help restore Classics Annotation's original edition.
