The Research Of Subjective Quantity Of The Modern Chinese Upper And Lower Adverbs

The research of subjective quantity is a hot issue in the study of Chinese syntax and semantics.This study focuses on how the subjective of language falls on the category of quantity and what subjective forms of expression.The research in this filed has achieved fruitful results.In this paper,we discuss the role of the two kinds of adverbs(we call it the upper and lower adverbs)in the expression of subjective quantity,including :(1)the boundary of upper and lower adverbs(2)the upper and lower adverbs can help to express what kind of subjective quantity(3)what are the characteristics of the upper and lower adverbs in semantic,syntactic and pragmatic levels of expression subjective quantity(4)What are the similarities and differences between the upper and lower adverbs in the same or similar meaning.This paper is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,w hich clarifies the research object of this paper,reviews the previous research results,and studies the upper and lower adverbs and the subjective quantity.At the same time,it also introduces the research contents,research ideas,research methods and corpus sources in this paper.The second chapter is mainly to determine the scope of the upper and lower adverbs.We take the semantic features of “greater than or equal to” or “less than or equal to” as the standard,referring to the definitions of several important function words dictionaries,ten upper and lower adverbs are determined: at most;maximum;at most;at lest;least;at least;minimum;merely;more than;at best.According to w hat subjective quantities are expressed,it can be divided into a large number of subjective lower adverbs and small amount of subjective upper adverbs.The third chapter focuses on the description of the semantic type of the upper and lowe r adverbs in the semantic plane w hen expressing the subjective quantity,including the semantic types of the quantity of the upper adverbs and the semantic types of the quantity of the lower adverbs are described.The fourth chapter focuses on the syntactic form of the upper and lower adverbs when they express the subjective quantity,according to the adverb,quantity,subject and verb,we have set up eight possible syntactic patterns,and examined the situation of the upper and lower adverbs entering the eight syntactic formats.The fifth chapter focuses on the analysis of the pragmatic features of the upper and lower adverbs in expressing subjective quantity,and we set up four groups of pragmatic features,respectively,to investigate w hether the upper and lower adverbs have all four groups of pragmatic features when they are used to express the subjective quantity.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,the results are compared and analyzed.It sums up the similarities and differences between the ten upper and lower adverbs in expressing subjective quantity in the syntax,semantics and pragmatics of the three planes.Finally,the conclusion of this paper is drawn and it points out that further digging place.
