Study On Singer's Animal Liberation Theory

Singer's animal liberation theory is an extremely important theory in environmental eth ics which is put forward under the historical conditions of the destruction of environment by industrial civilization and the development of anti-discrimination movement.Meanwhile,B entham's utilitarianism and natural value theory provides the theoretical basis for the animal liberation theory.Singer's animal liberation theory is of great importance in his whole philosophical syst em.What has the most profound impact on the theory of Singer is utilitarianism,around wh ich the animal liberation theory is unfolded.Singer uses the ability to feel the pain as the sta ndard of moral rights to define that all animals should be given equal moral care,and uses e qual principle of interest as the basic principle of treating animals.On the basis of the above principles,in practice,Singer advocates the realization of human vegetarianism,and the est ablishment of new relationship between human and nature.In thinking,Singer appeals to pe ople to abandon the concept of speciesism,treat animals equally,and liberate farm and labo ratory animals soon.The comment on Singer's theory of animal liberation has always been mixed and ther e are diverse views.In terms of the rationality,it has reasonably reflected anthropocentris m,broken through the limitations of anthropocentrism and widened the scope of moral phil osophy concern.As for the defects of his theory,the utilitarianism basis of animal liberatio n theory is contradictory to the equal principle.Meanwhile,the animal liberation theory ove remphasizes individual interest and lacks holism perspective,and it is difficult to put in prac tice because of contemporary cultural,social and economic development constraints in term s of its practicality.Although Singer's animal liberation theory has deficiencies,it has positive significance both theoretically and practically as one of the important theoretical achievements of enviro nmental ethics.
