Peter Singer is the most influential ethicist in the world today.He once served as vice chairman of the Federation of Australian and New Zealand Animal Organizations.He was also the founder and chairman of the International Society for Bioethics.Peter Singer’s Animal Liberation was a groundbreaking work that exposed how humans made pain on animals in order to meet their own needs,and how people should treated animals in accordance with ethical principles.With the increase in the level of consumption,people’s demands for diversified food were getting higher than before.They were not only satisfied with eating,but also wanted to eat well.They ate fruits and vegetables,and also mix meat and vegetables.The life were suffering from threaten and a large number of animals were killed.In addition,in order to obtain more benefits,people opened a large number of slaughterhouses for breeding.In order to study the effects of drugs on the human beings,there were excessive animal experiments and acted of mutilation of small animals.These phenomena all indicated that the ecological environment was being seriously damaged.In this case,Singer put forward the animal emancipation thought.He believed that emancipating animals means once again liberating human beings.Firstly,Singer found that animals and human beings have common genes,which inferred that there was a relationship between animals and humans.He used this relationship as a theoretical guide for animal emancipation,and then extended ethical care to Animals.Secondly,Singer advocated the principle of equality for all animals and strived for the benefits they deserved for animals who had the ability to feel pain.Lastly,Singer strongly advocated vegetarianism and defined vegetarianism.He also gave reasons for choosing vegetarianism.Singer particularly opposed to speciesism.He encouraged people to establish a harmonious relationship with nature.Singer inherited and developed Bentham’s utilitarianism and Darwin’s theory of evolution.And to be a vegan in practice,speeches throughout the country convey their theoretical ideas.Although the people from outside world put forward lot of questions about Singer’s animal liberating thoughts,he did contribute all of his personal power to the development of environmental ethics,especially the relationship between human beings and nature.
