Entrusted by Zhang Chengzhi, associate professor of Hebei University,I participated in the translation of the book ASEAN,PRC,and India: The Great Transformation, the Chinese edition of which has been published by the Social Science Literature Publishing House. So I am ready to base my practice report on my translation of the eighth Chapter of this book.In this report an introduction is made to the process of the translation and an analysis of the successes and failures in the translation. The report is divided into five parts: Task Description,Process Description,Preparations before Translation,Case Analyses and Summary. The task description part includes the background, the meaning and purpose of this project.Process description part describes the overall process. It is generally made up of four stages: preparations, formal translation, proofreading and final revision. In preparation before translation part, account is taken of the reading of the original text and the parallel texts, and of the way of searching terms and of the theoretical preparation.Case analysis part is the kernel of this report, where a detailed analysis is made of how “functional equivalence” between the source text and target text is achieved by applying translation strategies to the translation in some concrete examples.Practice summary part conducts a comprehensive summary of the merits and demerits so that I can improve my translation.Through the translation practice,I have a little understanding of the entire process of translation, but I still need to practice more in order to take good command of translation techniques.Anyhow, this translation practice is to me not only a valuable experience, but a motivation to my translation in future as well.
