Practice Report On Translation Of Excerpts From Commentary For Horqin Museum In Inner Mongolia

With the rapid development of tourism,characteristic tourism has gradually attracted more attention.The Mongolian is one of the nomadic nationalities in northern China,and more and more travelers are attracted by its uniqueness and mystique.As a window and a bridge of spreading Mongolian culture,Horqin museum in Inner Mongolia receives a large number of visitors every year,which has a significant influence on the inheritance and development of Mongolian culture.The translation of the commentary of the museum is an important part of the museum's publicity,and also an important medium for promoting and developing the Mongolian culture.At present,some scholars have done some researches on the translation of Mongolian culture.For example,Bai Qiuhui analyzes the present translation strategies under the theoretical framework of functional equivalence theory,especially the transmission of cultural information,thus contributing to improving the quality of the translations in his article.This thesis summarizes the translation strategies used in translation practice from the words,sentences,passages and cultural characteristics under the theoretical frame work of Skopos Theory and Communicative Translation Theory.Entrusted by the museum,the author attempts to translate the commentary into English.Based on Skopos Theory and Communicative Translation Theory,the author makes a summary of the key and difficult points in the process of translation practice,and tries to put forward the corresponding translation strategies.Some typical examples are listed and analyzed in detail in the report.Considering the linguistic features of instructors and tourists' subject-position,the author translates the Mongolian culture-loaded words by the methods of amplification and transliteration,etc.on the basis of accurate transmission of cultural connotation,these translation strategies make the target language tourists feel the charm of the Mongolian culture as much as possible.In order to meet the cultural background and language habits of the target language visitors,the methods of division and recasting are suitable for sentences translation,which makes sentences more complete and logical,so as to achieve the purpose of cross-cultural communication.At the textual level,the coherence and cohesion of thetext are concerned,and the cohesive devices such as reference,substitution and conjunction are used to make the semantic and structural relations more compact and more complete.Translation is a cross-cultural communication,so the transfer of Mongolian cultural characteristics in the practice is particularly important.The unique Mongolian culture is formed through long-term historical development,which results in a lot of cultural vacancies.The author uses some translation methods,including addition and free translation,to realize the accurate and effective transmission of the Mongolian cultural characteristics and make the translation full of uniqueness of the Mongolian culture and can be accepted by the tourists.At last,the author sums up that some translation strategies should be used under the guidance of translation theory in translation process,so that readers could understand and accept the translation,and the purpose of propagating Mongolian culture could be achieved.Due to the great differences in culture and language,there are many deficiencies in author's researches.The translation process and completion of the practice report are still inadequate,but the author hopes it could provide a reference for further translation and make my contribution to propaganda of Mongolian culture.
