Project Report On Translation Of Commentary Of Guangxi Mashan Folk Culture Exhibition Hall

This report is based on the translation project of Commentary of Mashan Folk Culture Exhibition Hall. The translation belongs to folk culture translation with about 10,010 characters in the source text. From the viewpoint of folk culture translation, this report records and analyzes the whole process of the translation project.In accordance with the purpose of spreading national culture, this report records the specific work conducted in the three translation stages of Mashan folk culture translation project:figuring out translation purpose, analyzing source text and target audiences, determining "foreignization" and "domestication" as the main translation methods as well as translation style. Moreover, the important and difficult cases in the translation project are selected and clarified into three parts as expressions with Mashan folk culture characteristics, common sayings and long sentences. After analyzing each case separately, a translation is produced as reference.On the basis of translation practice, the author considers that the focuses of folk culture translation lie in both the translation preserving Mashan’s unique folk custom, and local culture and making the translation be widely accepted by English readers or audiences, for the sake of spreading national culture. The author hopes that this report could be helpful to spread Guangxi folk culture and offers reference to other translators when conducting folk culture translation.
