Extensive reading plays an important role in the improvement of Chinese level of foreign students,and extensive reading material,as a reading teaching media and a reading training tool,its writing quality to a certain extent determines the effect of students' learning effect.How to compile an extensive reading textbook is a problem worth considering.We choose two intermediate Chinese extensive reading textbooks—— Fengguang Intermediate Chinese Extensive Reading Textbook(I,II)published by Peking University Press in June 2012 and 10 Level Chinese Extensive Reading Textbooks(5-8)published by Beijing Language and Culture University Press in February 2009 as the object of extensive comparative analysis.The analysis is carried out from three angles: the writing styles,the new words and the texts.Then we put forward some suggestions,hoping to improve the quality of Chinese extensive reading textbooks.This paper consists of four chapters,the specific contents are as follows:The first chapter is the introduction.This chapter demonstrates the significance of the topic from two aspects: the purpose of reading training and the importance of extensive reading materials,and defines the object of the research.Next,we review the research status of Chinese reading textbooks.Finally,we introduce the research methods used in the process of our analysis.The second chapter is the comparative analysis of the compiling styles of the two textbooks.We analyze the similarities and differences on compiling styles from two aspects: the overall structure of these two textbooks and the structure of each lesson.Furthermore,the arrangement characteristics of the two textbooks are also evaluated.Finally,we put forward some suggestions on improving the compiling style of extensive reading textbooks.The third chapter is the comparative analysis of the new words in the two textbooks.We make the analysis on two aspects: the number of the new words,and the level of the new words.Firstly,by means of detailed statistics,the total number of new words in the two textbooks and the changes of the number of new words in each class are defined.Secondly,we make an analysis on the levels of the new words and thedistribution characteristics of different levels of new words in each textbook.Finally,combining the the results of the analysis,we put forward some suggestions on the compilation of the new words in the extensive reading textbooks.The fourth chapter is the comparative analysis of the texts in the two textbooks.First of all,we made a statistical analysis of the length of texts.Then,combined with the actual situation of our scholars and two textbooks,the text genres and themes are classified.Based on the conclusion,we summarize the different genres and the themes,and analyze the characteristics and the distribution of various genres.Finally,combined with the results of statistical analysis,we put forward some suggestions on improving the compilation of the texts in extensive reading textbooks.Finally,in the conclusion part,we summarize the main content,the innovation and the inadequacies of this thesis.
