A Study On The Atypical Verbal Classifier+Noun Structure In Chinese

Recent years,there was much work about verbal classifiers.The verbal classifiers research rise in modern time,the main perspective is from the generation of the verbal classifiers,the diachronic development of verbal classifiers,the classification of verbal classifiers and the verbal classifier phrase structure.The precious studies mainly focused on the typical verbal classifiers from the perspective of syntactic structure and semantic characteristics.Some researchers have pointed out Chinese atypical verbal classifier combine with noun in a right-branching structure,as a result,the Chinese atypical verbal classifier and noun form a constituent.Therefore,there is a need to further study the validity of the claim that the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun in a right branching structure.Combing with the syntactic and semantic theories,the paper adopts the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun as the research object and analysis conducted over the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun to explore its syntactic structure and semantic characteristics.The paper through the literary works,absorbing the existing research results,especially adopting contrastive analysis method to study the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun and Chinese numeral-classifier combinations.The paper argues that the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun in a left-branching structure,and further explores the syntactic structure and semantic characteristics of the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun.For further studying the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun,the two relevant research questions are presented:1.What is the branching structure of the atypical verbal classifier+noun structure in Chinese?2.What are the syntactic structure and semantic characteristics in Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun structure.In view of two research questions above and abundant Chinese corpus analysis,the claims are presented in this paper:1.Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun in a left-branching structure.2.There is an implied event argument[+event]in the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun structure to explain the validity of the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun in a left-branching structure.Therefore,the modification between the numeral-atypical verbal classifier e and noun structure can be found.The paper sheds a light on the contrastive study of the Chinese atypical verbal classifier-noun structure and Chinese numeral-classifier phrase.The paper is not not only enriches the study of the Chinese atypical verbal classifier phrases,but it also is of significant to the application and development of the linguistic theories.
