On The Translation Of Wushu Textbooks Under Skopos Theory

Under the influence of globalization,Wushu,as a traditional Chinese sport event,is attracting people all over the world with its unique charm.Therefore,how to promote the internationalization of Wushu is an issue worth pondering.Moreover,the translation of Wushu,especially the translation of Wushu textbooks is one of the most significant parts in its international communication.In order to help popularize Wushu in the world rapidly,it's quite necessary to improve the translation quality of Wushu textbooks.As a major means of inter-cultural communication,the translation of Wushu textbooks aims to introduce Wushu techniques and skills to the target audience from different cultural backgrounds so it is of realistic significance to adopt scientific translation theories.In the late 1970 s,Vermeer put forward Skopos theory,pointing out that the most important factor that determines the translating process is the purpose of whole translation actions while one of the most important factors that determine the purpose of translation is the target audience.Therefore,the purpose of translating Wushu textbooks is consistent with the Skopos theory.Under the guidance of Vermeer's Skopos theory,this thesis takes the C-E translation of Wuzuquan Textbook of Chinese Wushu Duanwei System as a case study and explores several strategies in translating Wushu textbooks.At the lexical level,parallel texts are compared and transliteration,annotation,adaptation and omission are applied;at the syntactic level,conversion of parts of speech,division,adjustment of word order are used;at the textual level,logical deduction,simplification,cohesion and coherence are adopted.It is hoped that this translation project can offer some valuable references for the translation and study of Wushu textbooks.
