The Musical Image Analysis Of Santuzza In The Opera "Cavalleria Rusticana"

The opera,Cavalleria Rusticana is the beginning of Verism opera in the 19^th century and it is also one of the most representative Verism operas.Up to now,Cavalleria Rusticana and its arias have enjoyed a high performance rate around the nation,which has won the audience's love.The whole play takes the emotional conflict between Santuzza and Turridu as the mainline,thus presenting the daily life of people living in the low social strata and people's inner world.This opera reveals a full-bodied everyday life which is full of emotional color.In this opera,numerous lifelike musical images are depicted.Especially the musical image of the heroine,Santuzza accepts great attention from people.In this thesis,the author mainly analyzes the musical image of Santuzza and mainly discusses the musical image of Santuzza in her famous aria,Voi lo sapete,o mamma The author hopes this thesis will provide some theoretical and practical references for vocal music learners to learn the annotation of Santuzza's musical image.The essay is divided into three chapters:In the first chapter,focus is put on compositional background,plot introduction and art features of the opera Cavalleria Rusticana;the second chapter illustrates the diversified musical images according to singing part of Santuzza,laying foundation for detailed analysis about the image of Santuzza in Voi lo sapete,o mamma;the last chapter demonstrates the image of Santuzza from three aspects,i.e.:spectral cases,different versions by Callas and Cossotto through comparison and further study in art elements,and analyze the image of Santuzza in Voi lo sapete,o mamma.By doing so,the author attempts to have a better understanding about the image of Santuzza as a musician in a comprehensive,profound and accurate way,and dig her charming points from the perspective of character's feature study.
