The Stone Tablet of the Juqu Anzhou Buddhist Temple,smuggled out of China by Germany Grunwedel,is one of the Northern Liang Dynasty.In 1906(the 32 th year during the Qing Emperor Guangxu's reign),Duan Fang,a Qing Dynasty scholar w ho was then studying the European politics,ch anced upon the tablet in Berlin m useum.He hence,under the curator 's consent,made a complete copy and another quarter of unfinished of the tablet rubbi ng and took them back home.Unfortunately the original tablet was destroyed in the second world war,which makes the rubbings of Duan Fang become the only copy in the world,with significant research value.This research,taking the S tone Tablet Rubbing of the Juqu AnzhouBuddhist Templeas the research object,devotes itself toa comparison with different versions of rubbings.With an in-depth analysis of th e content and for m of the S tone Tablet Rubbing of the Juqu Anzhou Buddhist Temple,the value and significance is presented.Finally,with an integration of calligraphy and design,the influence of calligraphy on art design is explored through an analysis of the enlightenment of the rubbing for m to modern and contemporary design.This researchmakes special effort to a comprehensive and systematic study intothe preface and postscript of the Stone Tablet Rubbings of the Juqu AnzhouBuddhist Temple,including the content identification of the rubbing,information relevant to the writers o f the preface and postscript,narrative style of the stone inscription and a study of seals in the rubbings.Thepreface and postscript of the S tone Tablet Rubbings of the Juqu Anzhou Buddhist Temple bears a total of 19 insc riptions of Kuang Zhouyi,L iang Dingfen,Miao Quansun,Y ang Shoujing,Huang Sha oqi,Ke Fengshi,Y u Liansan,Zhang Cengchou,Zhang Zhidong,Zheng Xiaoxu,Luo Zhenyu,Zhang Jian,Z hang Yu,Shen Yuqing,Zhang Zuyi,Deng Bangshu,Xiao Fa ngjun,Yu Biyun and Jin Huanzhang,and the postscript of the Japanese Y uankouyao and the postscript of the fam ous French SinologistPaul Pelliot.P revious postscript content identification were lim ited to the famous scholars as Yang Shoujing,Kuang Zhouyi,Miao Quansun and Huang Shaoji,while others in the pos tscript were paid le ss attention to.The author of this research intends to identify and analyze all of the inscription in the postscript.Besides the postscript identification and analysis,the handing-down investigation of different tablet rubbings and the comparison of two different versions,more import-antly,the originality of this study lies in the study of the rubbing' s value and significance from the viewpoint of Northern Liang Dynasty history,social status,cultural background.Starting from the for m of rubbing,the research examines the influence of callig raphy on design and provides som e thoughts for callig raphy's merging into art design.With regard to the research m ethods,this research follows the method of combining the lite rature review and on-the-sp ot investigation;for the sake of the comprehensiveness,accuracy and integrality of the study,the researchers referred to ancient books,conducted relevant research in the national museum,and carried outon-the-spot investigation into the study object.Through investigation and research,the present research gives a more comprehensive study of the inscription and its preface and postscript,with th e aid of which,the readers can attain a more comprehensive and detailed understanding of th is tablet,the inscription and its preface and postscript.
