A Study On The Characteristics Of Conducting In The Ballet "Swan Lake" Music Clips

Tchaikovsky was a great composer and music educator in nineteenth-century Russia.His first ballet,Swan Lake,played a very important role in the development of this dance form.At present,research on Swan Lake in China mainly focuses on the compositional characteristics of the music,the analysis of musical form and the interpretation of the dance.There are currently few documents on conducting Swan Lake and how the conductor plays an important role in the stage performance of ballet.For this reason,the author of this essay has chosen to focus on the techniques involved in conducting this ballet,and to analyze the characteristics of the ballet conductor.In order to highlight the characteristics of conducting for ballet,the author takes the quintessentially melodic music of the Pas de deux in Act ? of Swan Lake and the rhythmic music of Dance of Four Swans,also in the ballet's Act ?,as examples.On the basis of the music scores of these two pieces of music,the author makes a comparative analysis from the aspects of tempo,rhythm,timbre,arrangement of musical instruments,and so on,in order to pay attention to the difference between conducting the ballet performance of Swan Lake and conducting the independent orchestra performing the same pieces without the dance.In the research,the author finds that the melodious Pas de deux music has a different conducting tempo speed when performed as a standalone orchestral music and when performed to accompany the ballet dance;the music as performed by the independent orchestra is free and flowing.In contrast,the music performed to accompany the ballet needs to take into account the regularity of the dance itself which is slow,and the main performance consideration are the dance movements.The rhythmical Dance of Four Swans,meanwhile,needs to be conducted in a way so as to grasp the tempo of the music with a high precision and to well connect the dance and the music.It is the highlight of this essay to compare and analyze the difference of conducting a standalone orchestra and one accompanying a ballet by looking at pieces with two different styles,different rhythms,different tempi and so on.Studying the conducting of ballet music can help us understand the relationship between ballet music and dance and thus help provide a reference for those who are going to conduct ballet music in the future.
