The Study On Working State Anxiety Of International Volunteer Chinese Teachers

We found that there are very few studies that explore the mental health status of international volunteer Chinese teachers in current academic circle and quite few researches that focus on their psychological anxiety.In view of this,we think it is necessary to investigate the work state anxiety of international volunteer Chinese teachers,in order to help them better adapt to overseas work and life,to strengthen the study of their working state anxiety and related psychological problems,to fill in the gaps in the research of preventing and mitigating the working anxiety of volunteer Chinese teachers,and to provide effective suggestions on the selection,training and distribution of volunteer Chinese teachers for Hanban and Confucius Institutes as well.We used the questionnaire,Working State Anxiety Level of Volunteer Chinese Teachers,which involved teaching anxiety and non-teaching anxiety and Spielberg's State-Trait Anxiety Scale to get the results.We issued these questionnaires twice to 87 volunteer Chinese teachers from 28 countries and collected them in half an year.The results were then analyzed by Excel statistical software.This dissertation also combines the qualitative research methods of interviews to find the relevant factors and mitigation strategies that affect the working anxiety of volunteer Chinese teachers.This article attempts to answer the following questions:First,what is the overall level and geographical distribution of working state anxiety of volunteer Chinese teachers during the two surveys and how does the situation change?Second,what are the relevant factors that cause the working state anxiety of volunteer Chinese teachers?And what's the difference between their importance?Third,what kind of strategies can be used to ease the anxiety of volunteers effectively?We found that the the overall level of working state anxiety of volunteer Chinese teachers was reduced during the second half of the survey period,but the reduction was not significant.From the aspect of work content,teaching anxiety has the greatest contribution to volunteer's overall working state anxiety.According to the dimension of anxiety,through the statistics of the questions contained in the 25%highest single item in the questionnaire,"intercultural communication anxiety","the anxiety before working","interpersonal relationship anxiety" "classroom performance anxiety" "negative evaluation anxiety" and"the anxiety caused by the management of Confucius Institute" have varied impacts on volunteer working state anxiety in turn.Through interviews,it was found that the reason why there was no significant change in anxiety among volunteers was because the factors leading to anxiety did not disappear,or new anxiety sources emerged;meanwhile,the volunteers neither adjusted themselves in time,nor did they actively seek effective strategies to alleviate anxiety.We found that working state anxiety of volunteer Chinese teachers is caused by many factors.To this end,we put forward several suggestions to ease their working state anxiety.First,from the individual level of volunteers:they should have a good mental preparation before they go abroad,enhance their self-efficacy and learn to adjust themselves,enhance their professional skills and overall literacy,integrate into the local culture actively,maintain good interpersonal relationships and find effective external support.Second,from Hanban and Confucius Institutes level:Hanban should pay attention to volunteers' work style and anti-pressure ability before the selection,collect more information on the specific post characteristics of various Confucius Institute,and.give more guidance during the training;Confucius Institute should take into account the match rate between personal characteristics of volunteers and the position,establish a scientific management system,strengthen the emotional care for volunteers,and strengthen the contact with the subordinate teaching schools.
