According to Halliday, interpersonal meaning,as one of the three branches of meta-functions of language in Systemic Functional Grammar to express and interpret the functions of language,is an effective standard and index for identifying and demonstrating speaker's attitude, intentions, standpoints, social status, identity, and power. In recent years, scholars have begun to explore interpersonal meaning from the perspective of gender difference to identify the disparity between male and female in their language.Hopefully, after the combination of interpersonal meaning with translation practice, the concept of Translator's Gender has been introduced into the real practice as a crucial factor in the process of translation, which extends the research scope of translation since 1970 s and 1980 s.Therefore,on the basis of two Chinese versions of Gone with the Wind, this thesis aims at exploring the impact of translator's gender on his or her translation from the perspective of interpersonal meaning in hope of providing some enlightenment to the research of translation both in theory and practice. The thesis employs both qualitative and quantitative study in the process of data collecting and data analyzing.Based on interpersonal meaning theory and gender difference of translators,we have achieved the following research results. There are differences between male and female translator's translation both in mood system and modality system. In terms of mood choice in mood system, female translator Li Meihua tends to shift the source mood choices.By contrast, the male translators group is inclined to maintain the source mood forms. For the subject alteration, both male translators and the female translator can make their own decisions to change, omit,or add the subject in the original sentences. What's more, the female translator uses more metaphors of mood system. In modality system, the female translator adopts more modal operators than male translators, conveying a great deal of understanding and sympathy to the female character in the novel. In the contrary, male translators tend to integrate their gender superiority with their translation, which shows their unshakable social status and safeguards their male priority.Male translators tend to adopt more high values of modality than female translators in their translation.
