The novel is a confession by the protagonist Humbert based on his experiences in prison,it tells an incestuous story between him and a young girl. With his superb narrative skills,Nabokov creates an impressive reading experience for readers. This thesis attempts to interpret the novel from the perspective of spatial narrative theory, analyzing how the post-modern text Lolita breaks the traditional narrative mode that takes time as the main line to highlight the unique artistic effects of spatial narratives in the exploration of the themes. This thesis is composed of three parts: introduction, text and conclusion. The introduction briefly introduces Nabokov's artistic career, the research background and the outline of Lolita, and the significance of this research and writing thought. The text includes four chapters. The first chapter outlines the rise and development of the theory of spatial narrative, and focuses on the physical space's narrative, psychological space's narrative and social space's narrative in literary works. The second chapter analyzes how a few special physical spaces in Lolita support the whole narrative and their symbolic meanings. The third chapter, through the analysis of Humbert's and Lolita's superficial discourse, excavated Humbert's obstinate mentality and reflected the awakening of Lolita's inner self consciousness. The fourth chapter discusses Lolita's personality defects and tragic fate from the perspective of social space. And the conclusion looks forward to the prospects of spatial narrative theory to literary research and summarizes the whole thesis.
