In 2006,the famous British translator Mona Baker published the book entitled Translation and Conflict: A Narrative Account,in which translation and narrative are pioneeringly combined, providing a completely new perspective for translation studies.According to Baker, translators can participate in the framing of the original narratives through four framing strategies: temporal and spatial framing, selective appropriation, framing by labeling and repositioning of participants. The basic-level category theory is one of the most significant theories in cognitive linguistics. The American psychologist Eleanor H.Rosch divided categories into three levels: the basic level, the superordinate level and the subordinate level. The three-level categories possess their own characteristics in four aspects:internal structure, function, gestalt feature and parasitism.Since the appearance of framing narratives in translation, the four framing strategies have been studied on by some scholars and great achievements have been obtained. However, their researches mainly focus on the instantiation of these strategies, thus restricting the development of the theory. The matching property between the the theory and translation practice also needs to be improved.Based on the basic human faculty of categorization and the universality of category hierarchy, the thesis tries to apply the basic-level category theory to framing narratives in translation. The aim is to promote the manipulability of framing narratives in translation and realize its further development. From the perspective of the basic-level category theory, the thesis tries to construct the hierarchical frameworks of framing narratives in translation. The achievement of this goal is based on two processes: categorization and hierarchical construction. At first, the author categorizes the framing strategies into categories related to framing narratives in translation. Then based on the category features in four aspects: internal structure, function, gestalt ans parasitism, the author carries forward the hierarchical construction of the formed categories. This contributes to the formation of the four hierarchical frameworks of framing narratives in translation. It has been found out by the research that the application of the basic-levelcategory theory to Baker's framing narratives in translation is helpful not only for the enhancement of the manipulability of framing narratives in translation but also for the promotion of its completeness, systematicity and logicality. As a result, the theory itself can be further developed and its application value can be further promoted.
