With the continuous expansion of China's inbound tourism,a broader market is awaiting the hotel industry.In order to develop the international market,an increasing number of hotels have offered English profiles as well as Chinese ones.Hotel profiles,as a type of public narratives which aim at the potential foreign customers for commercial publicity,can have a great influence on boosting the hotel reservation.However,after a comparative analysis of altogether 100 four-star and five-star hotel profiles both from home and abroad collected by the author,it is found that there are some problems in the C-E translation of hotel profiles,such as inappropriate content,inappropriate diction or unclear expressions.In order to make these narratives gain wider approval among foreign potential customers,the selection of narrative content and the application of narrative strategies can play essential roles.However,few scholars have carried out the hotel profile translation study from the perspective of narratology so far.Mona Baker successfully introduced social narratology into translation studies.Her narrative theory provides a new perspective and a solid theoretical basis for this thesis.First of all,based on 50 Chinese hotel profiles,their translated English versions,and 50 English hotel profiles,the author has tagged and compared the narrative features of Chinese and foreign hotel profiles with the help of the corpus tool AntConc,and summarized the similarities and differences of their narrative features.Secondly,according to the comparative analysis and the guidance of Peter Newmark's text typology theory,this thesis has pointed out the problems in the framing narratives of hotel profile translation and analyzed the reasons for these problems.Lastly,some narrative strategies for hotel profile translation have been proposed for quality translation on the basis of comparative analysis and Mona Baker's framing narratives in translation.According to the corpus-based comparative analysis,it is concluded that Chinese and English hotel profiles as public narratives display some differences in the aspects of temporality,relationality,genericness,and narrative accrual:(1)different temporality;(2)different social,cultural and participants relationality;(3)different high frequency words;(4)different narrative accrual.Based on the above analysis,the problems in the framing narratives of hotel profiles are identified as following: inappropriate temporality;inappropriate relationality and inappropriate selective appropriation.Finally,this thesis puts forward the following translation strategies from the perspective of framing narrative: temporal and spatial framing,selective appropriation of textual material,framing by labeling and repositioning of participants in the texts.
