A Study On The Vocabulary Of Basic Hierarchical Category Of Modern Chinese Characters

The basic-level category is the most obvious among the system of categories. It not only exists in the thing category, but also exists in the more complex action category, event category and abstract category. The previous researches of the modern Chinese basic-level category words were focused on the nouns and verbs, and they were less involved in the adjectives. This research’s objects are1526 words of character, which are from the semantic dictionary written by Su Xinchun. In the extraction of the basic-level category words of character, the sense of integrity is the main standard, and having subordinate level category words is the secondary standard. After dictionary investigation, standards appraisal and questionnaire survey, finally we extracted 34 modern Chinese basic level-category words of character.In order to understand basic-level effect in modern Chinese basic level-category words of character, the author studied respectively into the child acquisition of character words, the usage and the word-formation ability of basic-level category character words. The experimental results showed that children have a good ability to understand the basic-level category character words, and basic-level category character words have the dominant position in child acquisition of character words. Basic-level category character words have a high usage and a high ability of word-formation.The author summarized 3 traits of modern Chinese basic-level category words of character. Moreover, this study designed 34 semantic trees for the 34 basic-level category character words.This study can be applied to the teaching of modern Chinese vocabulary and the writing of modern Chinese dictionary. In addition, this study also can be put into use under the Big Data background.
