Chris Williams' ecological literary works Ecology and Socialism, from the perspective of sociology, explores the social reasons leading to ecological destruction, and points out that the capitalism is the root of various problems, namely energy crisis and environmental destruction. This translation report, based on the third Chapter of Ecology and Socialism,is translated under the guidance of Christiane Nord's functional theories of translation. It discusses the difficulties encountered in the process of translation, and meanwhile analyzes the corresponding translation strategies.Nord's functional theories of translation is based on the following two aspects, function and loyalty, the former discusses four different types of text, and the latter requires that in the process of translation the translator should coordinate the relationship between all parties involved,by taking the benefits of the initiator, the target readers and the author into consideration. This report introduces Chris Williams and his works Ecology and Socialism,Nord's functional theories of translation, and the significance of the translation report. Then describes the translation process, including the work done before, during and after translation. The third part is the case analysis of the problems in the translation practice. The understanding of American policy and its related terminology translation, terminology translation of ecology, etc.are discussed, and the corresponding translation methods and translation strategies are proposed in this chapter. Finally,as a conclusion of the translation report, summarizes the purpose and significance, and the deficiencies of the report. This report examines the translation methods and skills of ecological literary under the guidance of functional theories of translation, and thus is hoped to be served as a paradigm for researchers of eco-literature translation.
