| This is a translation practice report.The original English text comes from the book Exploring Translation Theories written by Anthony Pym in 2010,an internationally renowned scholar and translator.The book has profound ideas and extensive contents.It is a systematic summary of western translation theories.Since1960 s,many schools and theories have sprung up in the western world,so professor Anthony Pym systematically abominates them and deeply analyzes them.The translation of this systematic theoretical work might be of some help for translators and enthusiasts.This translation practice is a teamwork,in which each team member is responsible for one or two chapters,and the author of this report translates the third and the first half of the fourth chapter—directional equivalence and purpose,a total of17000 words.According to Peter Newmark’s classification of textbook,Exploring Translation Theories is an informative text,which mainly introduces the translation theories of western countries.And the main function of informative text is to convey the information of the original.Eugene A.Nida emphasizes that functional equivalence theory aims to look for the most appropriate natural equivalence between languages and cultures.Translators can reorganize the form and semantic structure of information in an appropriate way so as to achieve communicative purposes.So in the translation process,the translator chooses functional equivalence theory as the overall guide,and Newmark’s communicative translation and semantic translation as strategies to make the translation and the original text as equal as possible in conveying information,so that the target readers can get the same reading experience as the original readers do.In the report,the translator mainly analyzes the key points and difficulties in translation practice from lexical,syntactic and discourse level.Through the translation practice,the translator’s translation ability has been improved to a certain extent,not only in theoretical knowledge,also in translation skills. |
