This thesis is an investigation aiming at how well the application of humanistic teaching concepts in oral teaching of English majors.The thesis use both quantitative and qualitative methods,to investigate the current situation.The researcher picks 272 sophomore English major students to do the questionnaires,and 20 of them to do the interview.Then,the researcher chooses eight communicative classes of these English majors,and observes the oral English teaching part.The research questions are: First,what is the current situation of the application of humanistic teaching concepts in oral English teaching of English majors? Second,what are the main problems in the application of humanistic teaching concepts in oral English teaching of English majors? Third,what are the influencing factors of the main problems in the application of humanistic teaching concepts in oral English teaching of English majors?The research is from ten main concepts of humanistic teaching.The ten concepts are:creating a good teaching environment;student-centered teaching;using teaching materials that are familiar to students' real life;protecting students' self-esteem and self-confidence;arousing students' interest in teaching;considering the individual differences of students fully;cultivating students' abilities;considering students' needs;giving students positive feedback as much as possible and encouraging students to evaluate themselves.From the above ten main concepts of humanistic teaching,the research obtains the following major findings: generally,the oral English class of English majors can put these teaching concepts into practice,but there are still some big differences on the implement degree in each aspect.Firstly,in the aspect of teaching environment,human environment is good based on theenvironmental request of the humanistic teaching concepts.However,the physical environment,such as teaching facilities and seating patterns is comparatively behind human environment.Secondly,English teachers are good at putting students on the main position and carry on the student-centered teaching.Thirdly,teaching materials have close relationship with their real life.Fourthly,the English teachers pay much attention to protect the students' self-confidence and respect students' ideas in the class.Fifthly,the English teaching methods and activities can stimulate students' interest,but they are not so enjoyable.Sixth,the oral English teaching has sufficient attention on students' learning levels.Seventh,the English teaching focuses on training students' English oral communicative competence.Besides,the interview and class observation show that the teaching methods and test approaches in English majors' oral English class are very suitable to the learner' needs.Teachers can give positive feedback to students in most cases,and there is hardly any ignorance,which conform to the view of humanism on giving students positive feedback.For the subjects of evaluation,it is mostly the teachers who carry out the evaluations.Secondly,students conduct peer evaluation.Self-evaluation is the least conducted.The main problems are: Firstly,the students have a lower enthusiasm to answer questions in the class comparing with other aspects.Secondly,the students are not satisfied with the teaching facilities and seating patterns of oral English teaching of English majors.Thirdly,teaching content is not so interesting.Fourthly,there is not enough student self-evaluation.On the basis of recognizing current situation and possible reasons,the thesis puts forward several specific suggestions for improving oral teaching of English majors.
