The causal complex sentence is one of the most wide-spread,multi-functional forms of complex sentences in Chinese.Studies of causal complex sentences have taken an important part in Chinese complex sentences research. While features of causal complex sentences in ancient Chinese, middle Chinese and modern Chinese have been being uncovered in the academic world, the value of researching causal complex sentences in early modern Chinese stands out.The key turning point where the evolution from middle Chinese complex sentences to modern Chinese complex sentences took place should be uncovered by completely analyzing the features of causal complex sentences in early modern Chinese. The thesis has used typical text materials from early modern Chinese as raw data.Basic researching methods of causal complex sentences introduced by previous researchers have been applied in classifying, analyzing and comparing typical examples. The research is conducted by the three dimensions of syntax, semantics and pragmatics. In the syntax dimension, causal complex sentences with only a front or back link connector had got the largest amount, because so' sentences had fully developed. In the semantics dimension, causal sentences with both de jure and de facto meanings had become the mainstream, the cause-outcome mode had become the most common semantic mode.In the pragmatics dimension, most causal sentences had each got a single theme,a stating tone and abilities to link paragraphs. The exordium has discriminated the definition of causal complex sentences in early modern Chinese and briefly introduced current researching situations of causal complex sentences in early modern Chinese,as well as the meanings and researching methods of this thesis. In the main body of this thesis, causal complex sentences in early modern Chinese have been classified by the standard of syntax, semantics and pragmatics. The syntactic, semantic and pragmatic features of causal complex sentences in early modern Chinese have also been introduced using horizontal comparison. The conclusion of this thesis has pointed out that causal complex sentences in early modern Chinese had been well-developed in multiple dimensions and that the ensemble features as well as basic formats of modern Chinese causal complex sentences was directly inherited from causal complex sentences in early modern Chinese.
