Research On Selective Complex Sentences In Early Mandarin Chinese

The selective sentence is a significant category in the Chinese complex sentence system,which is used to express the selective relationships among different types of characters,things,objects or conditions.Based on the representative corpus of Early Mandarin Chinese,this paper widely and comprehensively collects the cases of selective complex sentences,referring to the results of complex sentences in modern Chinese,and describes and analyzes the usage and characteristics of selective complex sentences in Early Mandarin Chinese from syntax,semantics and pragmatics.The concepts of Early Mandarin Chinese and selective complex sentences are defined in the introduction part.According to the mark and semantic relationships,the selective complex sentences can be divided into four types,seperatly Arbitrary Selective Complex Sentences,Limited Selective Complex Sentences,Determined Selective Complex Sentences and Comparative Selective Complex Sentences.And this part teases out the studies of selective sentences,while establishing the values and methods for this paper.The body part studies on selective complex sentences mainly from the Three-Plane Theory.Staring from the aspect of syntax,this paper presents examples and describes the four common types of selective complex sentences in Early Mandarin Chinese,based on the marks of selective complex sentences.It also analyzes characteristics and usage of the marks.Meanwhile,via comparing the marks from the Ancient Chinese,the Mediaeval Chinese and the Early Mandarin Chinese,this paper researches the development of those marks and analyzes their generative mechanism.In terms of semantic types,this paper summarizes the logic foundation of selective complex sentences in Early Mandarin Chinese and sums up the logic formulas of six typical sentence patterns.Also,this paper analyzes the semantic features of those four selective complex sentences.Regarding to pragmatic functions,this paper mainly discusses the five modal types,four elliptical phenomena and six expression functions of selective complex sentences in Early Mandarin Chinese.The conclusion part summarizes the whole thesis and states that the development of selective complex sentences in Early Mandarin Chinese is becoming more complete in three aspects which are syntactic form,semantic feature and pragmatics function.And it selective establishes the development of selective complex sentences in Modern Chinese basically and foundamentally.
