Tsi-an Hisa had high reputation among foreign academic circles as a researcher with Chinese literature and culture,and his works were published one after another and arouse quite a reaction.But compared with his brother Chih-Tsing Hsia,his academic career and culture value remains further research and study.This paper attempts to return his personal experience and academic career to the historical situation,and focus on the four directions in his short life.As an individual in the shake-out stage,faced the turbulent days,he dispelled the unstable and anxiety through establishing the “ideal culturalised China”.And for the romance,he had the almost religions idea of love due to his extremely sensitive “ego” and extremely strong self-respect,which lead to his fail in affair and he was single for his whole life.As a supervisor and editor,he had contributed his whole life teaching,especially the 9 years when he taught in Taiwan University.His students had become the representatives in Taiwan culture circle;He started the Literary Review,encouraged the creation of serious literature,and which formed the totally different filed with the official literature,also he built the oasis for the Taiwan “culture desert”,and left the Chinese culture spark in Taiwan.As an novelist,he worried about the future of Chinese novelist,with the help of the new western criticism theory,he re-criticized on the new and old Chinese novelist,meanwhile he also worked hard on the creation and translation of the novelist.As a scholar,with his throughout knowledge and a broad vision of the study,wandered between politics and scholarship,he launched his studies into communist China.He was not only interpreted the communist China with a different way,but also with his attitude of sympathy and the way of cultural criticism of the Chinese left-wing literature movement.
