A Case Study On The Feasibility Of MT+PE In Descriptive And New Media Text Translation

Machine Translation(MT)has found broad application in today's translation activities due to its great help for translators.However,MT output still needs to be post-edited by human beings due to its limitation in language processing.Based on two translation projects,this thesis discusses how to use MT in informative text and new media text translation.This paper finds out that it can help translators to produce fast translation of simple sentences and general terms,but cannot choose the proper meaning of a polysemant,analyze the logical relationship between sentence elements or properly process the text information.This thesis suggests three methods for translators on post editing MT output,including word checking using professional dictionaries or search engines,consulting common sense,and reorganizing sentences.This paper tries to provide some translation strategies for translators who use MT as an aid.
