Comparative Analysis Of Terminology Management Systems-SDL MultiTerm Extract,Anchovy And Termbox

In the author's translation practice,the author discovers that there is little comparative analysis of application of Terminology Management Systems(TMS)for Chinese texts,which makes it difficult for individual translators and translation teams to choose appropriate TMSs for their projects.Therefore,the author decides to compare three TMSs: SDL MultiTerm Extract,Anchovy and Termbox.This paper first introduces the definition and selection of terminologies,the concept and impact of terminology management,and the definition and category of the TMS.Then in an experiment,the author uses SDL MultiTerm Extract,Anchovy and Termbox to extract terminologies from sample Chinese texts and create terminology files,so as to make horizontal and vertical comparisons between their basic functions and user friendliness.In the end,according to the experiment results and the author's translation experience,the author suggests making choices about the TMS based on the project background when dealing with small projects,and preferably using SDL MultiTerm Extract,which can be integrated with other SDL products,for medium and large projects.It is hoped that this paper will be a supplement to the relevant comparative study on the TMS,and that it will help individual translators and translation teams to make quicker decisions in choosing TMSs,optimize terminology management processes,improve work efficiency,and accumulate terminology assets.
