A Comparative Study Of Shen Congwen And Chi Zijian's Borderland Novels

Shen Congwen was a pioneer of borderland literature who presented Xiangxi district to the world at the first time,while Chi Zijian is a contemporary unique female writer who constructs borderland literature.Since Shen and Chi both praise borderland,their writing attitudes and concept can be described as echoes.However,due to the different time background,different cultural identities and different cultural tasks,the two writer's work shows a certain degree of difference.The present thesis is divided into three parts:introduction,body and conclusion.The introduction includes research reviews,research background,and research significance.In the body of the article,the author first discusses the difference between Shen and Chi on their roots of national thinking.Shen excavated the"water-based ethnic group" in western Hunan Province,while Chi discovered the "fire-based ethnic group" in the northeast of China.The second chapter discusses the comparison between life writing of Shen and Chi.Both of their novels presented the image of bloody from bandits,showed the divine nature from the ignorant,and gave their own forward-looking thinking on the borderland culture from the underlying women.Specifically,Shen believed "God is in the world",pursuing love and beauty,while Chi pursued "God is human",praising warmth and dedication.In the treatment of death,Shen let love and death adjacent,while Chi attributed the mortal with a strong force.The third chapter focuses on the differences between the two writers in the narrative of the borderland,and discusses the attitudes of them to the borderland culture.Shen was conscious with and felt pity the traditional borderland culture,while Chi shew the acceptance and frustration of decay of civilization from the mouth of civilized passers-by taking care of history and lamenting the reality.
