Face recognition,as a unique perceptual process, has aroused wide interest of scholars. The study of facial expression is a new exploration point in psychology.Face expression contains rich and delicate emotional and psychological information,it is particularly important to recognize emotions in the process of face recognition. The effective and accurate identification of emotional faces will help the individual better understand each other's intentions and establish a proper feedback interaction. The recognition accuracy of emotional faces is related to the cultural background of the individual. The research has found that the more similar of the cultural background, the more accurate for individual's to identify others emotion.Similarly, previous studies have found other-race effect in face recognition process. That is,when individuals identify and recognize their own race faces, they have better accuracy and faster recognition speed, and this effect exists in different cultural groups. So,is it common for the recognition of emotional faces? In other words, compared to cross-cultural emotional faces,is it faster and more accurate to identify and recognize the emotional faces which are in same cultural background, and is there any other-race effect in emotional face recognition? This is the main problem to be discussed in this study. Most of the researchers use the perceptual experience hypothesis to explain the other-race effect.According to the theory, more contacts with people of the same race are better for recognizing the face of their own race. And increasing the contact with the other-race population will improve the individual's ability to distinguish faces. However, the results are not the same. Some studies prove that perceptual experience has an influence on other-race effect.Others believe the theory is not enough to explain the effect.More research is needed to test the theory.More importantly, the previous exploration of the perceptual experience hypothesis is mainly from neutral face recognition, which has not been involved in the effect of emotional faces for face recognition. The influence of different types of emotion on recognition performance needs to be explored. At the same time, research has proved that personalized experience and social contact degree are the quality and quantity of inter-group contact, which affect the recognition of neutral facial expression. The quantitative contact is based on the objective assessment of the number of the other-race contact, and the qualitative contact is based on the assessment of the contact depth between the subjects and other-race people. Will they both have impacts on the recognition of emotional faces? In addition, from the angle of theory of mechanism analysis,we can find that the exploration for theory model has from simple parallel processing to the multi-stages integrative model.Parallel dual path refers to the parallel processing of face emotion and face identification. The multi-stages integrative model refers to the existence of expression recognition and identity recognition, but whether these models can apply to the universal culture, whether different emotional conditions are suitable for the same processing model are still to be explored. In summary, this study attempts to systematically examine Tibetan students' emotional faces recognition and influencing factors from quality dimension and quantity dimension of the inter-group contact, and try to explore the theoretical model of face recognition from different emotional conditions. In the increasing frequency of inter-group integration, how to correctly identify other race's emotional faces is of great practical significance to most people. In particular, with the growing integration of minorities and Han,the communication between different groups is becoming increasingly close. So,is there any other-race effect in identifying the faces of different nationalities? Is there any other-race effect in identifying the emotional faces of different nationalities? What are the factors that identify the emotional faces of different groups? These are the focus of this study. The study plans to select mainland Tibetan students who have some experience of other-race contact.Based on quality dimension and quantity dimension of inter-group contact, that is personalized experience and social contact,we take Tibetan and Han faces with different types of emotions as experimental materials.Use the learning-recognition paradigm,we investigated in neutral, positive and negative conditions, the recognition performance of Tibetan subjects who are in different inter-group contact level.Try to answer whether there is another-race effect in emotional face recognition, and attempt to propose the processing model of different emotional face recognition. Then under different conditions,we can examine the strength of interpretation on perceptual experience hypothesis, extend the existing research perspectives on face recognition and emotion recognition, and enrich the theoretical models of face recognition and emotion recognition.Integrating the three experiments, the conclusion is that:(1)The recognition of positive emotional faces shows other-race effect. In the recognition of neutral and negative emotional faces, only low inter-group contact level subjects have evidence other-race effect.(2)Quantitative contact has more impact on the recognition of neutral and negative faces, and positive faces are less affected.(3)Qualitative contact has more impact on the recognition of neutral and negative faces, and positive faces are less affected.(4)The results of the study are all able to verify the contact hypothesis. For low inter-group contact level subjects use the parallel path processing model, and the high inter-group contact level subjects are applied to the multi-stages integrative model.
