The purpose of this paper is to explore how to combine multimedia-assisted instruction with character-component teaching methods to facilitate effective teaching of Chinese as a foreign language and help students understand and master the composition of Chinese characters.This paper seeks to improving teaching efficiency by exploring,standardizing,and promoting of multimedia-assisted character-component teaching methods in the instruction of Chinese as a foreign language.The thesis studies the basics of the teaching Chinese as a foreign language,analyzes the unique challenges in learning Chinese characters as well as trends in student demographics,expounds on the fundamental principles and features of character-component teaching method,and indicates the theoretical basis for the application of multimedia-assisted Chinese as a foreign language instruction.The thesis also examines the Grade A characters in the Outline of Chinese Standard Vocabulary and Chinese Characters,analyzes the distribution and contextualization of the characters types,and proposes the general principles and special cases of the use of multimedia to assist in the teaching of Chinese characters in Chinese as a foreign language instruction.The foundation and scope of this study are substantiated by results from applied research in multimedia technology to assist instructional methods of different types of characters.Pedagogical examples were also presented.Finally,this paper summarizes the applicability of character-component teaching method to advance learning of Chinese characters and reduce errors;promote better appreciation of Chinese traditional culture and Chinese way of thinking;display multidimensional and intuitive teaching methods to enrich learning experience;and stimulate students' interest in learning and improve cognitive efficiency.This paper identifies issues that require attention to didactic flexibility,moderation,and regularity,emphasizes on improving teacher literacy,and speculates on the outlook and direction of further research.
