This is a translation commentary of Giving an A,which is a motivational text.Considering the inspirational discourse should first express the effect of persuasion, this study starts from the Reader-Reception theory and uses two theoretical perspectives to guide the translation, which are Interpretive Communities and Aesthetic Distance.First of all, inspired by the concept of Interpretive Communities,I read a number of works similar to the original text before starting the translation work in order to better access THE INTERPRETER,or the classical music behind the text.Secondly,in order to minimize the aesthetic distance between translation works and readers,I adopt domestication to be the primary compensation strategy.Five compensatory methods are specifically used in the process of translation practice:The first is Amplification, which is to add proper words and phrases, and then to improve the relevant meaning beyond the literal meaning. The second is Extension, which aims to solve sudden changes in the tone of the text by using verbal secondary meanings. The third is Division, which is to separate two words from one meaning or adjust words' order so as to complete the meaning. The fourth is Combination, which is to combine two words into one in line with the order of the target language. The fifth is Substitution, which reproduces the rhetorical effect by replacing symbols of language. After the practice of translation,it was found that Substitution and Division mainly improve the readability of the translation,Extension and Amplification mainly enhance the comprehensibility of the translation, and Combination gives higher acceptability to the translation.Indeed, domestication has not only made sure the most significant meaning is rendered first, but also made the translation more intelligible to readers.
