Yang Shoujing has been famous as a geographer and epigraphy calligrapher in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.Because of deep affection to epigraphy collection and appreciation,he achieved great attainments on calligraphy.He lived in an age in which writing brush was used as a daily writting tool.In this thesis,we take 3 Tiba of Yang Shoujing's “Thirteen Lines of Ode to the Goddess of the Lou River” as a calligraphy analytical case.To find out author change,Tiba on the same content he left in different period will be discussed.Moreover,the three Tiba are written in daily writing content and combine practicality with art.Through the combination of practicality and art in Yang Shoujing's Tiba,the lacking constituent in Modern calligraphy will be discussed.Compared with Modern trend of calligraphy,today,we mainly pursue the free expression on calligraphy and ignore the significance of practicality.This thesis discussed whether it is necessary to see calligraphy is practical or not,whether practicality is playing a role in today's calligraphy and how we should view the practicality of calligraphy.To understand the sense of the hierarchy of calligraphy,Yang Shoujing learned calligraphy is used to explore the lines and the practice of my study calligraphy.
