<Farewell to My concubine> is a concerto for suona composed by the composer and professor of Central Conservatory of Music,Zhu Yi,in 1983,based on a historical incident with same name.The composer combined western composing technique with Chinese traditional music elements and make the title of this concerto and melody match perfectly.For the characteristic of this piece,it continues both national features and international futures.As the melody goes on,the reluctant emotion of leaving each other between the general Xiang Yu and his concubine Yu JI and the tragic heroic feelings are completely shown before the audience.Given this,it gained much attention by many students and teachers the moment is was published and had great influence in the field.This concerto has become an important work for professional suona student to practice and perform.I learnt about this work as a professional suona student and performed it at my graduating concert for master degree.If a piece of music were to be fully interpreted,it requires not only firm performing skills,also,theoretically,deep understanding of it.Combined with my experience of studying and performing this concerto,I am trying to analyze the art,skills and emotion processing when performing based on the study about its creation background and musical passage.Meanwhile,I want to briefly talk about some experiences on learning suona performing,hoping to contribute to suona theory research on a practice base,and offer help for the coming performers of this work.
