South Pacific nuclear-free zone treaty, which is also known as treaty of rarotong, was formulated by 13 south Pacific countries in 1985 after a decade of consultation, mutual compromise;it is also one of the most important treaties in the south Pacific countries. The south Pacific is far from the United States,Britain and France,it has been used as a testing ground for nuclear bombs since the second world war,Which has a serious threat to the ecological environment. In this research,we have systematically investigated and analyzed the establishment process of the south Pacific nuclear-free zone. This thesis was divided into five chapters: chapter one,the historical background of the emergence of the south Pacific nuclear-free zone;Chapter two,the rose of the denuclearization movement in the Pacific islands; The third chapter,New Zealand and Australia's attitude and plan for the establishment of south Pacific nuclear zone;Chapter four: the attitude of foreign powers toward the establishment of the south Pacific nuclear zone, such as the United States and France;Chapter five, the signed of the treaty and the establishment of the nuclear-free zone. The establishment of a nuclear-free zone in the south Pacific was not roses all the way,and the views and opinions on the south Pacific nuclear-free zone were unanimous, and there were even great differences.Western countries, for their own sake, have shown extreme indifference and even opposition to the establishment of a nuclear-free zone, which once hindered the establishment of a nuclear-free zone. With the independence of more and more south Pacific islands, the island government and people's anti-nuclear movement were becoming more organized. At the same time, the role of Australia and New Zealand were of Paramount importance in the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone which as regional powers. The nuclear-weapon-free zone proposed by New Zealand was also more thorough, and its programme was more consistent with the aspirations of the people and governments of the south Pacific islands.Although New Zealand's international power can't match with international countries,New Zealand was firmly against nuclear position helped Australia get more space in consultation with other nuclear powers. In turn,Australia Concerned about Australia's declining influence in the south Pacific to build the south Pacific nuclear-free zone negatively,as it have many cooperation with the United States and Europe on military, economic and political. Therefore, there were some defects in the south Pacific nuclear-free zone, but it has protected the ecological environment of the south Pacific region and plays an important role in promoting the world anti-nuclear movement.
