This translation report is based on the translation practice of an English academic article “Aging Affects Identification of Vocal Emotions in Semantically Neutral Sentences”,to explore the translation strategies for academic texts.The source text is a typical academic text,which is a research achievement and the important reference materials for scholars of this field.Therefore,while translating academic texts,it is necessary to maintain the integrity of the source text and accurately describe the complete contents.Readability is an important criterion for measuring translation quality,which means the translation must be smooth to adapt to the regional characteristics of the target readers,and the translation should be consistent with the basic style of the source text,convey the information accurately,and make the original meaning clearly.Readability is the effect of translation on the target language readers,whether the translation can realize its value depends on the readers' response,and translation should be “readability-oriented”.This paper focuses on the readability of translation of academic papers,discusses the characteristics and translation strategies of academic texts from the lexical and syntactic perspectives,such as free translation,amplification,combination,omission,conversion,restructuring and so on,with the help of this study,the translator hopes to give some inspiration to the translators of English academic papers,enhance the readability of this kind of text translation and better realize its reference value.
