Nowadays the culture of the faith in the eight Bodhisattvas is still very popular,especially in Tibet.The arts derived from the culture of the eight Bodhisattvas has been affected by many factors during the process of art spread and caused the diversity of the artistic image of the eight Bodhisattvas.Such constant change of modelling easily lead to harder to call and false identification not only to art lovers but to art workers.It's indicated that art practices of the eight Bodhisattvas should not be blindly followed the multiformity.The Mandala Sutra of the Eight Bodhisattvas translated by Bu Kong of tang dynasty was found after careful searching the related sutras,which writes in great detail of the modelling of the eight Bodhisattvas,also instructive to relevant creations.Miantang School is one of the most famous factions that is good at express truth,kindness and beauty.As a consequence the style of Miantang School is perfect for describe the figures of the eight Bodhisattvas.It has seldom been seen that the study of standing figure of the eight Bodhisattvas of the Miantang School both at home and abroad.My paper is going to abide by the portrait scale of the Miantang School as a basic framework of the eight Bodhisattvas,as well as to research the images according to the descriptions of The Mandala Sutra of the Eight Bodhisattvas,all these are aimed at making synthetic study on the standing figure of eight Bodhisattvas.I hope to take this opportunity to achieve the goal of enriching the diversity of graphical modeling and theme of the Miantang School,and to promote the interrelationship and the mutual development of Buddhist culture and painting.
