A Study Of The Transmission Of Network Euphemism From The Perspective Of Memetics

With the rapid development of the Internet industry,network life has become an important part of people's life,and communication and exchanges on the Internet make people gradually form a distinctive network language,which is attracting more and more linguists to focus on this academic research.In order to avoid conflict and embarrassment,or to achieve politeness,humor,humorous communication effect in the Internet communication,network euphemism comes into being.Network euphemism is a kind of distinctive language which uses the implicit expression to achieve a special communication effect.Meme is called the cultural DNA,which can explain the phenomenon of transmission and replication of language.Meme is first introduced in “The Selfish Gene”,which is written by Richard Dawkins,a famous evolutionary biologist.According to “Oxford English Dictionary”,the definition of meme is that meme is the basic unit of culture,which is transmitted by non-genetic mode,especially by imitation.” Network euphemism and meme are closely related to each other.As a new language variety,network euphemism is copied and transmitted in meme.This paper focuses on the study of network euphemism with memetic theory to explain the transmission of network euphemism.It is discovered by studying and analyzing that network euphemism follows the four stages of replication and transmission of meme,that is,assimilation,retention,expression and transmission.Network euphemism transmits rapidly in memetics.Any strong network euphemism meme shows its longevity,fecundity and fidelity.Combining the study of network euphemism and memetics provides a new perspective on exploring the transmission of network euphemism.Through memes,the language can be copied and transmitted,and form the interactive mode between the people and the language,from which we can explore the change and development of transmission of network euphemism.
