A Study On The Diffusion Of Mo Yan's Works In Europe And America

Mo Yan's Nobel Prize in Literature showed the identity for Mo Yan's work from European and American mainstream literary field.The foundation of this identity,is certainly the successful diffusion of Mo Yan's works in oversea,westward,and especially in Europe and America.Using the Theory of Innovation and Diffusion as the main framework,combined with the theory of translation studies,intercultural communication and other disciplines,this research studied Mo Yan's works' spread in Europe and America mainly from two aspects of individual and social systems: studied the feature of Mo Yan's works--including the translation versions--and their influence to the diffusion;investigated the individuals' acceptance of sinologists and readers through the book reviews,cleared the obstructions from recipient variable and social system variables.With all above,we can firstly grasped the spread of Mo Yan's works,with heterogeneous cultural factors—namely "innovation",in Europe and America as a whole,secondly analyzed the acceptance of Mo Yan's works of overseas Chinese scholars and ordinary readers,as well as concluded the factors those affected the dissemination of Mo Yan's works in Europe and America.The whole dissertation was divided into six chapters.Chapter one was a general introduction,which firstly introduces the background and significance,the analysis of domestic and foreign research,then the research methods and innovative ideas,as well as defined relevant concepts covered in this study.The second chapter showed the translation situations of Mo Yan's works in Europe and America.The third chapter analyzed the five characteristics of Mo Yan's works and the role they play in the spread of Mo Yan's works in Europe and America,that are relative advantage,compatibility,complexity,trialability and observability.The fourth part firstly divided the reception process of Mo Yan's work into three parts,and then according to the reality,analyzed respectively innovators,early adopters,early majority's acceptance of Mo Yan's works from the recipient's personal view,including the composition of these recipients,as well as their personal characteristics and the social system characteristics which they are living,to examine individual actual acceptance process to Mo Yan's works.Chapter five explored the obstacles and problems,especially the cultural ones,during the spread process of Mo Yan's works in Europe and America,and predicted their continuing acceptance road.The last part summarized the experience and lessons from the spread in Europe and America in three views,that were the generation,communication and acceptance of innovation,in order to make conference to Chinese contemporary literature's introduction to the world.Finally was the summary of the whole paper,clarified the innovation and deficiencies of this paper.
