Shanxi Mask Art Research

Nuo,a kind of priestly ritual activity aimed at exorcism and Exorcism,carries thousands of years of Chinese history and culture.Nuo culture has the "living fossil" of ancient Chinese culture.It has a position and value that can not be ignored in Chinese culture.There are many kinds of Nuo culture in Shanxi.At present,the research about Shanxi Nuo culture is mainly analyzed from the angle of dance,opera and history.The research on the sculpture of the Nuo mask has not been systematically discussed.The exorcise mask is an appendage to Nuo culture.It is an important prop of exorcise performance,and it is the most vivid and direct way.The exorcise symbol and the change of the exorcise mask reflect the development track of the Nuo culture.As part of the Chinese mask,Shanxi exorcise mask condenses a variety of culture,such as material culture,spiritual culture and so on in Shanxi region,embodies the unique aesthetic concept of Shanxi people,and is the crystallization of the wisdom and blood of the people of Shanxi.From the angle of the art of the Nuo mask,this article collects and summarizes the information of Shanxi Nuo mask,and carries out a systematic combing from the exorcise performance to analyze and study the exorcise masks in Shanxi,the Shouyang love society,the Zhao Xiong flower chamber drum,theFive ghosts,the Yangquan Five ghosts,and the Changzhi Jia.The origin,development and performance of the village greet society are briefly described,and the Nuo masks are systematically analyzed and summarized from the aspects of modeling techniques,color features,pattern features,material technology and aesthetic characteristics.Through this study,it is more deeply understood that Nuo masks show the psychology of the blessing of Naji and the yearning for a better life,and think about the present situation of the Shanxi Nuo dance mask,and put forward some feasible suggestions for the development of the local Nuo dance,so that it can better connect with the modern art in the rapid development of information age.To protect and inherit and develop this intangible cultural heritage,Shanxi Nuo dance mask can highlight its unique charm and artistic value.
