| This is the report of the translation task of Chinese-English guide book for the Official Selection of 2016 “Gold Panda” International Documentary Festival.The festival was held by Sichuan Radio and Television Station.The Official Selection of 2016 “Gold Panda”International Documentary Festival is a branch of “Gold Panda” International Film and Television Festival Series.The guide book contains the introduction to this event,the rules for participation,the introduction to the outstanding works and comments by judges.The target readers of the guide book would be the participating organizations or the individuals mentioned in the book,and the documentary fans.This report reviews the translation process,describes the translation difficulties encountered,and analyzes some translation strategies adopted.In the 1970 s,the German functionalist Katharina Reiss and Hans Vermeer proposed the Skopos Theory,which says that translation is a cross-cultural human communication activity with a certain purpose.It requires that translators should first understand the intended purpose of the translation task,and then use the proper translation strategies after considering the target reader.The translator should comprehend the source text and its culture background,grasp the purpose of translation task,and follow the skopos,loyalty,coherence rules.Then the culture would be well propagated.This report selects some examples from the translation task and uses Skopos Theory to analyze the translation problems on the lexical and syntactic levels.The report shows that on lexical level,in the aspects of diction and expression of meanings,attention should be paid to target readers’ acceptance.On syntactic level,attention should be paid on the culture differences and the use of languages between source text and target text.Culture factors and language factors should be considered when doing the translation task.Through the analyses,the report puts forward some English expressions and translation skills for media activities,and hopes to provide a little help for the Chinese media industry to go abroad for a better international cultural exchange. |
